Founded in France in 1833, the Lafarge Group has a long and proud history of innovation, establishing itself as a world leader in the building materials sector across its four divisions, namely cement, aggregates and concrete, roofing, and gypsum.
A major player in the market, the Group's number one leadership slot in cement was confirmed in 201 with the acquisition of Blue Circle, at the time the world's 6th largest cement producer.
In today's market, the Lafarge group of companies now operate in more than 75 countries, employing some 85 000 employees. Sales revenues have increased significantly over the past five years, growing year-on-year from a recorded turnover of 6,4 billion euroes in 1997, to 15 billion euros in 2001.
