September 2002

A Cape based quarry continues to add to its Bell fleet, reporting outstanding availability on is 2208C loader, ADTs, and two 1430 excavators.
Portland Quarries in Durbanville, Cape Town, will celebrate its second anniversary in September under the ownership of the company's directors, Nico Heyns and Helenus Scholtz.
Today the duo also owns Portland Properties, an estate agency which sells the Portland developments, and Portland Readymix, together with Stuart Byrne, which opened last September to provide an additional market for the quarry.
Since exercising that option the quarry had undergone a major facelift. About R100 000 of scrap metal has been removed from the premises and almost 300 trees planted. Offices have been upgraded, the entrance road has been tarred and a security control point introduced. Two new crushers, a Svedala S3 000 and a B700VSI, were also installed.
