CBE’s plan for transformation

Heart bypass for Gauteng roads
Gauteng has some of the busiest freeways in the southern hemisphere. More than 400 km long, they serve 1,4 million people who travel 40 million vehicle kilometres and spend 600 000 person hours a day on the road. The current network will get an overhaul in what is being called the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Programme.
Bridging the gap between congested and uncongested
The Allandale intersection is a major project to ease congestion on the Ben Schoeman highway. This project involves the construction of various bridges and will make this vital intersection free-flowing.
High-density craneage at King Shaka International
The Ilembe Building Joint Venture, which secured the building portion of the King Shaka International Airport, comprises 18 companies. This project is dominating the North Coast horizon with a multitude of tower cranes.
New dense wastewater marine outfall system
Mhlathuze Water is responsible for disposing of wastewater via two marine pipelines into the Indian Ocean at Richards Bay. WSP Africa Coastal is upgrading the existing dense wastewater marine outfall pipe system.
Environmental management of the Gautrain construction
Bombela Joint Venture is responsible for ensuring there is no environmental damage during construction of the Gautrain and when Killarney golf course informed them of problems these were immediately investigated and rectified.
The dawn of a new era
The first Screwsol project in South Africa was recently completed at Olievenhoutbosch substation in Northgate, Johannesburg by DURA Soletanche Bachy. The project itself was not very big. It involved 40 piles for a lightly loaded structure.
A wider and deeper Durban harbour entrance
Regarded as a project of national importance, the Durban Harbour will be widened and deepened. The concrete for the Dredging International/Group Five Consortium is being supplied by AfriSam (South Africa). They are able to guarantee the concrete supply as they offer a total service offering.
