Construction World - May 2010

May 2010

The May issue of Construction World focuses on scaffolding and contains an article on MSA Africa which has, for the past 70 years, provided safety products to various industries - construction being one of them. It is also good to hear that safety is now top priority: the Master Builders Association of KwaZulu-Natal have adopted a policy that implicitly forces their members to adhere to higher levels of safety standards.
Besides our normal focus on the construction industry, Construction World this month also focuses on whether massive dams in Africa is the answer to the electricity shortage of the continent while Basil Read, who has been placed atop the Sunday Times Business Times Top 100 for the past two years, remains positive about the future, despite the slump after the World Cup projects. Also read our interview with the CEO, Marius Heyns, in the June issue of the magazine.

Basil Read recently completed work on the Mbombela stadium in Nelspruit.

The stadium has innovative structures and striking zebra-seating.

Revolutionary pathbreakers

Doka will set the formwork-technology agenda for the years ahead with the introduction of a revolutionary new load-bearing tower and pathbreaking innovations for forming walls and floor-slabs.

Innovative formwork solutions

Eskom's power generation capacity will be significantly boosted when Medupi's six new dry-cooled and coal-fired generating units start to come on line towards the end of 2011. Wiehahn was called on to provide some rather innovative scaffolding solutions.
