September 2010
The September issue focuses on cement and concrete technology. Afrisam, a significant player in the South African market, which recently launched its Eco Building Cement, has already made significant progress in the development of an eco concrete. The basis of developing an eco concrete is that the core component of cement - clinker - is extended with products that have a significantly lower carbon footprint. Components that are used include slagment and fly ash.
Our project profile this month is a slight departure from the norm. Arup Interchange Design recently completed the Moses Mabhida station, its first completed project in South Africa.
This design unit's philosophy is based on the premise that the built environment has the power to influence the future. It was formed within Arup in 2001 and started operating in Johannesburg in 2007.
Arup Interchange Design was involved in the construction process of the station throughout and created a station that is aesthetically pleasing but one that also brings dignity to commuter travel.

Our cover story focuses on two projects that affirm Esor Africa's superiority with pipe jacking projects.
The first project was in Botswana for the Gaborone sewer reticulation upgrade and the other for Sasol in Secunda and involved the pipe jacking portion of a 147 km long pipeline.
