""Green"" affordable housing development for Diepsloot
Nedbank Corporate Property Finance: Affordable Housing has announced the funding of and its equity stake in an affordable housing development worth in excess of R2-billion, to be built in Diepsloot, near Fourways. The 237 ha mixed-use development, known as Tanganani, will consist of housing units catering for the poorest of the poor, the lower end GAP market, as well as the traditional credit linked affordable housing. Depending on the final densities being approved the property has the capacity to yield in the region of 12 000 housing units.

eThekwini Municipality on track to curb water losses
On target at the halfway stage, the municipality's asbestos cement water pipe replacement programme will save eThekwini rate payers more than R248-million in water loss annually. Due for completion in July 2010, the R850-million project is a South African first and encompasses replacing 2 800 km of up-dipped 100 mm and 150 mm asbestos cement secondary water mains from Tongaat to Umkomaas and Cato Ridge in the west.

The only solution open to developers is to go to court and force the buyer to start work or forfeit his plot.
