The project will cost R590 million. The designs incorporate solar powered geysers, evaporative cooling units and energy efficient appliances. Developers look to rental market Soula Proxenos, managing partner at equity funder, International Housing Solutions, suggests that rental accommodation is an attractive alternative for developers in this economic climate. 3rd International Holcim Awards The $US2 million competition for sustainable construction was launched in July. The Swiss-based Holcim Foundation Sustainable Construction initiative is open to sustainable building and civil engineering works; landscape; urban design and infrastructure projects. Entries must be submitted on line at www.holcimawards.org Transparent cement Bergamo-based Italian multi-national, Italcementi has developed a transparent cement. The product was launched at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The Italian pavilion has attracted over 2,5 million visitors in three months.
