Housing in Southern Africa - June 2010

June 2010

Housing in Southern Africa visited the site of Absa's Innovative Housing and Sustainable Energy Competition. The aim of the competition is to promote new technologies and break through the perception that if it's not a traditional brick and mortar it's unacceptable. Absa and other stakeholders are promoting energy efficient solutions, to the housing backlog, by using new technologies that can offer quicker delivery and promote sustainability. The Women at Wiphold are set to manufacturer cement in Limpopo and the new R1,65 billion plant will provide jobs in one of the poorest provinces. South Africa's beloved former President and international statesman, Nelson Mandela, was captured by the apartheid government 47 years ago, near Lions River on the R103. The site is to get a facelift and a cultural village will be built near the site.
