Minister of Human Settlements, Tokyo Sexwale, visited Afhco's inner city R33 million renovation of Cavendish Chambers in Johannesburg's CBD. The City of Johannesburg's social housing provider, Joscho, won the coveted ‘UN Habitat 2010 Scroll of Honour' for providing affordable housing units and services for the poor. The prestigious award recognises those organizations that contribute to uplifting its citizens' lives. Joshco's CEO, Rory Gallocher, also received a merit award for his work from the South African Housing Foundation at the annual SAHF awards.

The Sustainable Housing Calculator developed by University of Stellenbosch Professor Mark Swilling and Professor Johan Burger was presented at the National Indaba on Alternative Technologies. The Sustainable Housing Calculator can be downloaded, at no charge, from www.sustainabilityinstitute.net The tool can be modified for the user and it allows for all projects costs including capital expenses, land costs and infrastructure.
