3 000 houses not NHBRC approved

CEO of the National Home Builders Registration Council, Sipho Mashinini, holds government accountable for the 3 000 houses which Minister Sexwale intends demolishing as they were not built or registered with the NHBRC.

Changes to the NHBRC's mandate will impact on developers and builders and provide much needed consumer protection. The legislative review team will consider current shortfalls and make recommendations. But it will take a year before the White Paper is proposed and open for public scrutiny.

Lufhereng - Soweto's beacon of hope

Minister of Human Settlements, Tokyo Sexwale, attended the launch of Lufhereng in the Greater Soweto area. The astute billionaire politician listened to protesters over housing delivery and offered hope for those still on the waiting list.

Soweto's newest township, Lufhereng, will provide 25 000 housing opportunities in the mixed human settlement, situated on the R588, north of Protea Glen and south of Slovoville.

Sexwale cracks down on corruption

The Special Investigations Unit has recovered R44 million and arrested 1 910 government officials who illegally benefited from housing subsidies from the Department of Human Settlements. The money recovered has been ploughed back into the Department's coffers.
