The Calgro M3 project is destined to provide affordable, sectional title, and BNG housing for residents of the nearby hostels and informal settlement. The Minister of Human Settlements, Tokyo Sexwale handed over five hundred houses to the Thornhill community, in Port Alfred. And ‘South Africa Law Firm of the Year 2010', Bowman Gilfillan has provided 1 111 trees to residents of Alexandra. The 12 km square township surrounded by Sandton, Kelvin and Wendywood has benefitted from the top legal firm's greening initiative.

Accidents cost R42m Statistics released by the Federated Employers Mutual Association show that the average construction-related accident costs R14 800. SA City Studies The South African City Studies Conference, on September 7th to 9th 2011 in Cape Town, has called for papers for the conference. The ACC-Cubes initiative hosted the first conference at Wits University during June 2009. Professor Alan Mabin from the Wits School of Architecture and Cubes says, "We are now planning the next full scale City Studies Conference in September 2011. We intend to bring together scholars who wish not only to expose their work to positive critical discussion, but also to engage the work of those working in disciplines other than their own."
