President Barack Obama and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, visited the Phoenix Contact booth at the opening of the Hannover Messe (Hannover Trade Show).

HM ObamaThe heads of state were greeted by Chief Executive Officer, Frank Stührenberg, as well as the President of the United States (US) subsidiary, Jack Nehlig. Stührenberg served as the spokesperson for a number of new developments in a variety of product ranges, and showed the prominent guests charging connectors for electric mobility.

The CCSplus fast charging system can charge at up to 350 000 watts – within three to five minutes, it can provide an electric car battery with enough power to drive 100 km. This system is available for both the European and American markets and comes with the corresponding standardised plugs. It not only fulfils user requirements for fast charging, but also represents an important milestone in the spread of electric mobility, which both the American and German governments seek to promote.

This year, for the first time ever, the US is the partner country of the Hannover Messe – the world’s largest industrial trade show, which attracts over 200 000 visitors from all over the world. Obama is the first-ever sitting president to be present at the opening of this event. His presence served to underscore the value that both the US and Germany place on maintaining close economic ties with one another.

“We are proud that President Obama and Chancellor Merkel visited Phoenix Contact. Our American subsidiary serves as a good example of how German investments in the US yield success for both countries,” says Jack Nehlig, President of Phoenix Contact Inc. Phoenix Contact’s U.S. subsidiary was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Additional offices are located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Houston, Texas, and San Jose, California. The headquarters handles sales, development, and production operations.

Phoenix Contact has been exhibiting at the Hannover Messe since 1953 and has been the third-largest exhibitor at the event for years.
