With costs of capital equipment constantly escalating, refurbishment and overhaul are practical and attractive options. Particularly with large units, a total refurbishment usually costs in the region of half of what it would cost to replace the gearbox. Renold Crofts recently refurbished two 28-inch worm gearboxes that were originally built for a local steel producer 20 years ago. The cover photograph shows Renold Crofts' Brett McDonald with one of the newly refubished gearboxes ready for delivery.
