Local welding company Oerlikon South Africa (OESA) has gone about its black economic empowerment initiative in a unique and inspiring manner. Together with George Mawasha, one of OESA's most experienced and senior previously disadvantaged employees, they have created Phamodi Welding (Pty) Ltd. Phamodi is being run as a joint venture with OESA, with each company holding a 50% shareholding.
In its short life, Phamodi has already won a significant tender to supply PetroSA with 32 state-of-the-art welding machines for its training facility in Mossel Bay.
