Convicted illegal miner does it again
Illegal mining and borrow pits (although not necessarily illegal) have come to the fore again. On the illegal mining front, the case between Dollar Mining Trading cc and the DMR is a case in point. The accused, Dollar Mining owner Mfundo Manzi, was found guilty on charges relating to mining without a right, permit, or permission, failure to comply with a directive or order given in July and August this year, and failure to comply with a directive or order also given in February. What annoys me is that fact that he had already been previously convicted, and yet, once again has broken the law! What an idiot!
What is good to know, however, is that the DMR is working with the NPA, the AFU and the SAPS to ensure that the assets of illegal operators are attached following due process, and this also applies to current rights holders not complying with the law.
And then on the borrow pit side, MQ has come across a proposed borrowpit development for the strengthening of National Route 27 Sections 7 and 8, between the Western/Northern Cape border (40,0 km) and Calvinia (70,0 km). This EMP, which is for SANRAL borrowpits, has been submitted to the DMR in Kimberley. Looking at the total area, there are quite a few operating quarries that should have benefited from this contract.
