BMG's specialist gearbox drives repair facility at Mahogony Ridge, KZN, (seen on the left) has recently completed a full gearing recondition turnaround on a 20 t diffuser drive used in the sugar industry.
"This Dorstener diffuser drive gearbox, which has been in operation at a sugar mill in KZN for nearly 20 years, was transported to the BMG Drives facility for inspection and a full bearing and seal change during the recent sugar off-crop season," says Clive Northcote, BMG Drives works manager, KZN. "This was the first time the drive had been removed from the diffuser drive head since installation. The attached in-line planetary drive has been removed and inspected annually since it was installed 20 years ago."
Specialist reconditioning and repair work of this diffuser drive included a complete bearing and seal change out, as well as reconditioning dressing and machining of the gearing assembly.
This reconditioning project was referred to BMG Drives by a sugar mill in the Sudan, based on the company's proven reputation for excellence. BMG's service teams are active each off-crop season, throughout the African sugar industry, in gearbox maintenance inspections.
