Royal Haskoning achieves safety milestone in South-Africa

Recently, Dutch Engineering & Consultancy multinational, Royal Haskoning achieved the milestone of 1 million safe construction man-hours for the Meerkat 2 Project in Sasolburg, South Africa. With this impressive achievement, Royal Haskoning has made a strong entrance into the South African market.

In June 2008, South African Oil Multinational Sasol asked Royal Haskoning to provide the Engineering, Procurement and Construction management (EPCm) with a fully automated state-of-the-art chemical batch plant in Sasolburg.
This was the second time that Royal Haskoning was asked to do so. In 2006, RHDE had started the MeerkatI1 Project, which entailed the EPCm of a similar plant in Europe. Sasol honoured this project with two awards, one of them being the Sasol Project of the Year 2008.

Aside from the chemical plant, the Meerkat2 Project entailed the provision of extensive supporting facilities, including an administration building, a remote control room, truck unloading facilities, a tank farm, two off-gas incinerators, workshop facilities and a warehouse.

"We are very proud that not only our Royal Haskoning employees, but also the Sasol Technology team and all the contractors have reached this outstanding achievement. Further compliments are due to all the HSE-co-ordinators, supervisors and construction workers who created a safe work environment every day", concludes Hans-Jochem de Kleijn, Project Engineer at Royal Haskoning.
