SRK's new managing director is Mike Hood (left), an experienced rail design engineer, who brings both fresh blood and expertise in a sector relatively untouched by the firm. Coming to SRK from four years on the Gautrain project with Murray and Roberts, Hood has literally a life-time's experience in railway engineering.
He sees a few new opportunities for SRK's business in the near future, including the growing demands on government service delivery, the possibilities for nuclear power and alternative power sources, and the fledgling high-speed rail infrastructure. Always relishing a challenge, he is looking forward to honing the cutting edge that SRK's services represent - but insists he won't be there for more than five years. "I think that's optimal for both the leader and the organisation," he says.
