Prominent announces winning painter of the year 2009
Rewarding those contractors who take pride in every job they do, Prominent Paints has successfully hosted its third consecutive Painter of the Year competition in March 2010. With two categories of Residential and Commercial Sector, Prominent also names a Supreme Painter of the year - and the 2009 honours went to Charl Smith of Phambili Civil Service.
Not only is Smith's commitment to quality work recognised by Prominent Paints and the broader industry, but he also took home a substantial prize purse consisting of a brand new Ford Ranger bakkie.
At an event hosted by celebrity Mark Pilgrim and model Mandelien Oosthuizen, Smith and winners of the Residential Sector and Commercial Sector Categories were recognised for their achievements among peers and industry leaders.
According to Russel Thomson, brand marketing manager of Prominent Paints, the competition is designed to acknowledge outstanding talent and expertise in the South African Painting industry. "Quality products are only the first step in achieving a great finish on new or existing buildings; perhaps even more depends on the workmanship which goes into preparation of surfaces and the appropriate application of coatings. By drawing attention to the men and women who work to bring out the best in paint and related products, we are looking to encourage and reward excellence."
The awards were chiefly judged by interior decorator, paints specialist and colour consultant Keryn Paull and architect Eduardo Todisco.
Taking the honours in the Residential Sector was Chantel Grobbler of Done and Dusted for her work at House Volkwyn; meanwhile, Commercial Centre winner Moncardo Chitray of Montreal Projects, came up trumps for the completion of the King Shaka International Airport in KwaZulu-Natal.
"We were particularly pleased to have a woman emerging as a top painting contractor in 2009, dispelling the notion that this is a ‘men-only' profession," says Thomson.
Noting that entries for the 2010 Prominent Paints Painter of the Year are already open, he encourages all contractors with an eye for quality and detail to visit the company websites for more information.
