Winning entries from previous Eskom Energy Efficient Lighting Design competitions show that anything goes - from plastic pegs, to cardboard and scrap wood.

If you have a bright energy-saving idea or have developed an innovative process for saving electricity, you could find yourself being rewarded with a cash prize of R30 000 for your efforts, as well as an eta Award at a gala event in Johannesburg at the end of October this year.

The eta Awards, endorsed by the Department of Energy and sponsored by Eskom, are unique at they cut across the industrial, commercial and residential sectors and also recognise the efforts of innovative thinkers, young designers, and women active in promoting energy savings.

The categories in which awards will be given include: Industrial, commercial, residential, innovation, women in industry, women in community, young designers, and power fitness.

Entries close on 6 August 2010.
