Magnet, a specialist in the supply, implementation and support of electrical equipment and industrial instrumentation, has completed an energy efficient lighting project for Transnet Rail Engineering (TRE) in the Durban Harbour area.

This project, which involved the design and installation of a new energy efficient lighting system, has reduced energy consumption at TRE's warehouse facility by approximately 60%.

TRE's warehouse consists of about 60 bays that were previously illuminated by outdated 400W high bay type light fittings. Over 2 500 units have been replaced with energy efficient fluorescent high bay fittings and 4 000 open channels and dustproof fittings have been replaced with more efficient, lower wattage units. New electronic control gear has been installed and over 1 200 occupancy sensors at this facility control TRE's lighting system by switching the lighting off in unoccupied areas.
