Receiving an award from the Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) is no mean feat as its esteem is truly justified by being a well-focused organisation.
The Association was formed in the preceding stages of energy efficiency, when energy efficiency was merely an additional consideration to projects in South Africa. Its humble beginnings emanated from a group of dedicated entrepreneurial academics who saw the need to address the energy crisis in South Africa. In fact, as early as 1992, Professor Ian Lane wrote a white paper published in a respected South African engineering journal, based on factual information, that South Africa would head for an energy crisis by the early to mid-2000s. As such the SAEE was truly borne out of a sound understanding of our country's needs in this industry.
The SAEE Awards programme is complemented by being presented at the Association's prestigious annual banquet. Nominations for these prestige awards are now open for worthy candidates in the five award categories for 2010:
- Energy Company of the Year: Awarded to a company that has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the energy industry in Southern Africa during the year.
- Energy Newcomer of the Year: Recognition to a newcomer who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the energy industry in Southern Africa during the year.
- Excellence Award: Recognition to a company/individual whose role has made and outstanding contribution towards improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions, came up with innovative means of conservation, or has advanced and expanded access to power and energy in Africa in a sustainable manner.
