Rainbow Reservoirs has launched the Yaktek, a leading Australian line of liquid-level indicators for storage tanks and reservoirs. The gauges are simple, robust, effective and guaranteed for five years. Construction is from corrosion-proof materials for reliable performance in exposed conditions. Early local buyers include Rand Water and N3 Toll Concessions.
Yaktek level indicators differ from the majority of competitors' products in that the read-outs are actual and true, with the indicator exactly matching the level of the liquid. There is no need to interpret the read-out.
The underlying mechanism comprises a simple, mechanical float-weight-pulley system needing no power source. A weighted float and external indicator are both connected by separate chords to a counterweight located between the two. Everything is in balance and level when the reservoir is half full. A rising liquid level will lift the float, lowering the counterweight which in turn raises the external indicator. A falling liquid level will cause the weighted float to pull the counterweight up, lowering the external indicator.
There are three Yaktek variants of this basic mechanism, any one of which will fit any tank of any manufacture, whether plastic, fibreglass, galvanised iron, steel, concrete or timber. The easiest of the three to install is the Levetator, a free-hanging indicator for use with water storage only. More than 50 000 reservoirs have been fitted with this model worldwide.
Liquidator, the second version, is a refined model in which the counter-weight is located outside the reservoir, leaving only the polypropylene float in contact with the liquid. Liquidator is suitable for use with waste water, oil, effluent, molasses, acids and chemicals.
The third version, the Level Devil, is a smaller version of Liquidator designed specifically for small tanks up to 1,8 m in height.
A fourth level gauge which operates on a different principle is found in the Dipstik. This indicator delivers 360o all-round visibility, and comprises a rigid pole sliding vertically within a guide, and connected directly to the top of the float. The top-mounted indicator rises and falls with the float to indicate tank level.
All Yaktek indicators are made of polished aluminium fitted with reflective red bands for maximum visibility. They can easily be seen from a helicopter and at night, making them suitable for applications such as fire-fighting reservoirs. Installation of all models is simple and quick, with no need to get inside the tank. An experienced fitter will complete the installation in a few minutes, a DIY installer in less than one hour.
