Hydro Power Africa

Hydro Power Africa will be held from 19 - 23 September 2011 at tge Sandton Convention Centre, South Africa.

Now in its 4th year, Hydropower Africa is still the largest hydropower conference and exhibition of its kind in Africa, boasting a full three day conference & over 450 delegates from across the continent.

It exploits prospects for hydropower development in Africa, encourages investment in hydropower projects and identifies and overcomes challenges for hydropower development in rural and urban areas.

The conference programme consists of two streams:

1. Small, Mini and Micro Hydro - Sustainable solutions in increasing energy access to Africa's rural communities

  • Gain insight on the commercial potential for the development of grid-connected and off-grid small hydro schemes
  • Learn from international best practice case examples on how to get more from urban wastewater systems and how they can be applied in Africa
  • Learn how to develop small hydropower schemes from scratch, including site selection, feasibility evaluation, tariff design and funding

2. Macro Hydro - Ensuring energy security through Africa's abundant hydropower resources

  • Learn from senior utility representatives about investment prospects for generation projects in Africa
  • Hear more about project finance from both a financial institution and developer's perspective
  • Understand sustainable best practices for hydropower project assessment, preparation, implementation and operation
  • Examine asset management best practices of existing hydropower plants
