Are you passionate about your community? Do you have a project that deserves to be noticed and needs to be sustained? If you answered yes to either of these questions, an opportunity for your community project to walk away with R750 000 is fast running out as entries for the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award close on February 24th 2012.
The Award celebrates creative solutions to the problems that face more than half the world's population now living in cities. It seeks to encourage citizens and urban stakeholders to take a hands-on role in creating shared responsibility for the cities of the 21st Century, mankind's first truly ‘urban age'. The award is open to Cape Town-based projects that benefit communities and local residents by improving their surrounding urban environment.
Entries are not limited by size and will be assessed on a project basis, which means that organisations may enter, or sign as formal partners on, more than one initiative. The award could go to one exemplary project, or be split between a number of deserving projects, depending on the jury.
"We have received some exciting projects which truly showcase the breadth of creativity, passion and dedication that Capetonians have for their local community," says Lindsay Bush, Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award Manager.
Community initiatives are welcome whether it is a small peace garden on a vacant plot of land in a residential neighbourhood, a public library in a marginalised area, these projects are all testaments to human spirit, resilience and co-operation, and deserve to be recognised.
Entry forms are available online at www.DBUAaward.net or can be collected from the Central Library in Darling Street.
Entrants are given an opportunity to provide reference letters, and are asked for a 3-page project description with photographs, motivating why the project concerned is worthy of winning the award.
Applications can be emailed to entries@DBUAaward.net or posted to the African Centre for Cities at UCT, and should reach the organisers by 16h00 on Friday 24th February 2012.
