LiuGong, one of the world's largest wheel-loader manufacturers, today opened its Southern African headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. This facility, which will span 10 200 square meters, will serve as LiuGong's sales hub, technical support and spare parts distribution centre in the sub-Saharan and West African regions.
"The launch of our headquarters in Southern Africa is an important milestone for LiuGong as the region represents a significant market for the company. LiuGong already has numerous customers in the region, with more than 500 customers located in South Africa alone," said Wang Xiaohua, Chairman of Guangxi LiuGong Machinery Corporation. "The office in South Africa will strengthen our presence in the region, and contribute towards our goal of becoming one of the world's top construction equipment makers."
LiuGong expects its Southern African headquarters in Johannesburg to generate approximately R200-million per annum.
Chairman Wang further explained that LiuGong's equipment is highly suitable for the African market where construction and mining often occur in remote locations. "Our customers receive the highest-quality equipment that is also easy to service and maintain, even in rugged conditions. Our machines' durability and reliability are demonstrated by its long run times, with 3 000 hour maintenance schedules utilised in some cases," he said.
The Southern African headquarters is LiuGong's tenth global office and plays a critical role as a key customer and dealer touch point in the region, as it allows the company to attend to needs more efficiently, particularly in terms of quicker parts delivery and servicing turnaround times . For example, spare parts that previously took two weeks to reach customers can now be delivered in two days, reducing production down time significantly.
Training opportunities, particularly for staff members in research and development will also be provided, which will allow them to interact more closely with customers in the region, and gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of the needs of each local market. "This will assist us to develop products that will best meet the needs of the different markets," said Chairman Wang.
According to LiuGong, Johannesburg was selected as the location for its Southern African headquarters as it has sounds infrastructure, exceptionally efficient logistics and is regarded as the economic hub in Africa.
