10 February: Industry ready and waiting

The President's State-of-the-Nation-Address last night will be welcomed by industry. Declaring 2012 the year of infrastructure delivery, Zuma unveiled five major geographically-focused programmes, and a host of infrastructure initiatives. 1 February: CESA engineers are ‘unquestionably ethical'

Consulting Engineers SA's (CESA) new president Naren Bhojaram says the organisation is concerned about the inconsistencies between the newly-promulgated Preferential Procurement Framework Act and the Construction Sector Codes of Good Practice promulgated in terms of the BBBEE Act.

Speaking today at CESA's annual presidential breakfast, he says that our country's current lack of institutional strength within government is a breeding ground for corruption.

Bhojaram believes that business integrity is not about companies, government or institutions, but about individual human beings, "honesty is the only way." All CESA member firms are constitutionally required to have a Business Integrity Management Systems (BIMS) in place.


TUESDAY 31st January

Leading construction company Group Five is in discussion with several companies for the sale of its construction materials businesses. The unit, which includes Group Five's aggregates, readymix concrete, cement extenders and mobile crushing services, have been negatively impacted negatively by losses in the construction materials sector.

The unit contributed 4,7% to 2011 revenue of R9,2 billion and made an operating loss of R68-million last year.


27 January: Zero truth in latest e-toll roadblock hoax

Sanral has unequivocally stated that no staff from either Sanral or its toll operator, ETC, have carried out any roadblocks as described in various emails and social network postings.

Sanral says these are ‘malicious rumours'. Are our road users so gullible, that they would allow themselves to be ‘forced' to register for the e-toll?
