ENGINE is Ericsson's multi-service network offereing for network operators. ENGINE is designed for real-time services; a carrier-class network able to carry large and growing volumes of IP-based traffic. ENGINE efficiently builds new and migrates operators' current circuit-switched networks into a single next generation network, based on ATM and IP packet switching technologies. To date, Ericsson has received 64 contracts for ENGINE soutions including Telefonica Spain, Diveo, BT, Telia Denmark and Telia Europe, KPN and others. Ericsson recently announced the first ENGINE contract in South Africa with Transtel, Ericsson's ENGINE multi-service network will be rolled out across South Africa, in anticipation of Transtel's participation as the country's second national fixed network operator.
