January 2002
The MC35GSM/GPRS module offers manufacturers and consumers, in the mobile computing sector in particular, an ideal communication platform. This new module greatly increases the speed of wireless data transfer, and is particularly suitable for integration in notebooks, handhelds/PDAs and portable navigation terminals.
Apart from GPRS with data rates of up to 85.6 kbps (GPRS Multislot class 8 downlink) the MC35 supports conventional fax and data communication at up to 14.4 kbps, SMS messaging and reception of cell broadcasts. Measuring only 54.5 x 36 x 6.75 mm with a mass of 18 grams it is ideal for miniaturized- or industrial applications.
Siemens Components South Africa is now offering the MC35 in the form of a plug and play terminal for simple integration in systems. The MC35 Terminal measures only 65 x 74 x 33 mm, smaller than a packet of cigarettes. With a mass of 130 grams it contains a Sim card reader, an audio interface for a handset, an antenna connector and a serial interface with a 9-pin socket.
From the end of January Siemens Components is responsible for the MC35 GSM modules, as well as all new product developments from Siemens IC Mobile.
