Quantum - February 2010

February 2010

First up in Communications is NEC's vision for the next generation network (NGN). The article initially reviews the expectations for NGN, before the company's overall image and approach is provided. Also in Communications, Ilan Seidner at RAD Data Communications reviews the African communications revolution, specifically also in terms of backhauling and broadband technology.

Embedded Systems contains two articles: The first part of a series that deals with GPS receiver testing, from information supplied by Agilent Technologies, reviews the basics of this GPS technology that we increasingly see embedded into related devices. Then, an article from information supplied by Telit Wireless Solutions reviews machine-to-machine (M2) communications.

Three articles are presented in Security & Protection. Firstly, the causes and effects of inter-system ground noise are considered in typical AC-only power protection equipment in an article from information supplied by APC Schneider Electric. Then, an article from information supplied by Vepac, weighs automated maintenance management against possible savings that can be achieved, with specific reference to power metering equipment manufactured by Panasonic Electric Works. Finally, the first article in a series of five (by Christian Ganniger and Martin Traut at Schroff GmbH) on electronic packaging reviews 'the integrated system'.
