Quantum - August 2011

August 2011

The August 2011 edition covers Test & Measurement, Wireless Systems and Design & Software.

The first article in Test & Measurement, by Dr Paul Brooks at JDSU, considers testing and validation of 100G ICs. Then, the proper use of clamp meters in commercial and residential environments is summarized from Fluke's perspective, before the phoenix x|aminer X-ray inspection system for components and PCB assembly is reviewed.

In Wireless Systems, Oliver Amiot and Pat Sweeney at Sierra Wireless consider fixed cellular technologies as a key component in modern networking applications. Also in this feature, an article by Paul Cameron explains why AWR 2011 software may speed the design of complex (RF/microwave) modules.

Two articles are contained in Design & Software. The first, by Bernard Richard, Claude Gudel and Stéphane Rollier at LEM reveals how control & protection of solar installations may be simplified by the application of advanced transducer technology. Finally, Kevin Tretter at Microchip Technology clarifies why all precision operational amplifiers are not evenly compared, specifically with reference to op-amp architectures.
