O
n the market are two new tempera-
ture calibrator variants designed for
applications that require either extreme
cooling or high heat—the JOFRA PTC-125
Cooler and RTC-159 Ultra Cooler calibrators.
Available from
Blanes Pressure Solutions
,
both calibrators offer a host of innovative
features, design improvements and a wide
temperature range that makes them ideal
for calibrating sensors used in health care,
medical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and
food processing applications.
The JOFRA PTC-125 is the latest addition
to the JOFRA ProfessionalTemperature Cali-
brator (PTC) Series. It offers a wide tempera-
ture range (-90oC to +125oC) and features an
intuitive easy-to-use interface. The RTC-159
joins the JOFRA RTC (ReferenceTemperature
Calibrator) Series and is AMETEK’s most
advanced reference temperature calibrator
with the widest available temperature range
(-100oC to +155oC).
Both PTC and RTC Series calibrators
incorporate a highly efficient, free-piston
Stirling cooler and feature improved heat-
ing and cooling speeds. The RTC-159 offers
the fastest calibration. Its patented cooling
technology allows the calibrator to fast cool
to -80oC in 65 minutes.The PTC-125 achieves
that temperature in 75 minutes. RTC and PTC
Series calibrators have large diameter inserts
designed to calibrate large-sized or multi-
ple sensors at once. The compact, rugged
calibrators are easy to carry, weighing only
15 kilograms, making them the lightest and
most portable cooler and ultra cooler cali-
brators on the market. The RTC-159 features
AMETEK’s patent-pending Dynamic Load
Compensation (DLC) system that provides
perfect temperature uniformity in the insert
no matter the number or size of the sensors
immersed. Both of the calibrators also offer
unique intelligent sensors for plug n play fail
safe connectivity, an easy-to-read full-color
5,7-inch VGA display, and a USB connection
for improved communications and software
downloads.

arthinusen & Coutts (M&C)
has com-
pleted a multi-million rand machine
shop upgrade with the purchase and recent
commissioning of a Victor 40/220 CNC lathe,
a Victor 102 CNC vertical machine centre, as
well as a Webster & Bennett 54” vertical bor-
ing mill and a Union horizontal boring mill,
model BFT 125. Over the last few years M&C
has become a fully integrated service provider
by investing in various areas of its business,
including the test bays, coil shop, burn out
oven and balancing capabilities, driven by the
objective to internalise all subcontracted work
and further reduce repair costs, boost safety
and improve efficiencies. Managing director of
M&C Richard Botton says: “Our machine shop
offers a vital service to customers. The upgrade
initiative was tested on selected high turnover
items where we proved that this will enable
us to reduce costs, with improved quality and
delivery times. This investment will realise an
immediate return and ensure that we remain
market leaders by constantly improving ef-
ficiencies in a competitive market.”

EANWELL
has expanded their railway
power supply family by introducing
the RSD-300 series (300W).With the different
wattage models of 100 W/150 W/200 W/300
W, MEAN WELL’s complete product line of
enclosed type single output dc/dc converters
are able to fulfil the various requirements of
vehicle applications. Featuring 2:1 (±40%)
wide input range and 4 000Vdc input/output
isolation, RSD-300 series is characterised
by 5G anti-vibration, wide range working
temperature of -40~+70˚, protection for short
circuit, overload, output over voltage, over
temperature, and input reverse polarity, as
well as a built-in constant current limiting
circuit and a 40 mm low profile design (1U
compliance).
With a high efficiency circuit design, the
RSD-300 series possesses up to 91% high
efficiency. The series is semi-encapsulated
for PCB protection to provide the
basic functions of anti-moisture,
anti-dust, heat dissipation as well as
anti-vibration. Therefore, cooling can
occur without any forced-air but still
function between -40℃ to +70℃ ambient
temperature which is suitable for a
harsh environment.The design of the
new converters complies with ITE standards
(IEC60950-1 and EN55022) and also with
railway certificates (EN50155, IEC60571,
IEC61373, EN50121-3-2).
