Anti-theft cable
protection system
CableGuard™, distributed by Aberdare
Cables, is a unique anti-theft cable
protection system that protects direct
buried cable. CableGuard units are
injection moulded from reinforced engi-
neered polymers which gives them the
strength and durability to be effective.
The system is simple and easy to
install on a wide variety of cable sizes
using a clamp and interlocking shield
mechanism. It is typically fitted every 5
to 10 m in standard installations.
Utilising the latest scientific tech-
niques in computer-aided design
(CAD) and finite element analysis (FEA),
CableGuard units are reportedly designed to provide optimum product
performance for ‘in service’ load conditions.
Not only do the units offer highly effective protection when installed,
but, due to moisture absorption over time, the clamps sit even tighter
around the cable, adding additional tensile resistance. Any ‘creep’ or
stretching of the cable’s outer layer results in a permanent set of the
sheathing material, therefore enhancing the ability to safeguard the
cable installation.
When CableGuard was subjected to rigorous testing, including com-
binations of straight pull, reverse pull and the perpendicular method,
reaching up to 6 tons of load on the digital strain gauge, all attempts to
remove the underground cable were unsuccessful.

Hytec’s Service Centre renews
its Bosch Rexroth accreditation
Hytec’s hydraulic Service Centre in Johannesburg, which services mobile
and industrial hydraulic systems and components, was re-awarded Bosch
Rexroth’s stringent competency accreditation in early 2014 as a Bosch
Rexroth Certified Service Centre of Competence (CSC-C).This accreditation
certifies that the Hytec Service Centre has the processes, infrastructure,
qualification and management abilities to perform service work to the
quality standards specified by the Bosch Rexroth Service Centre Grades.
The accreditation audits the facility’s ability to repair and service
pumps and motors, hydraulic valves, controls, mobile gears, standard
and large hydraulic cylinders and electronics. The CSC-C accreditation
is the highest possible grading for any service centre within the Bosch
Rexroth Group.
Hytec was first awarded the Certified Service Centre of Competence
certification in 2004. The accreditation is valid for only five years, where-
upon the facility is required to be formally re-audited by Bosch Rexroth
officials from Lohr, Germany. Hytec remains the only company in the
world outside of the Bosch Rexroth Group to have received the Certified
Service Centre of Competence accreditation – and its Service Centre is
the only Bosch Rexroth-certified facility in Africa.
