SERVING THE INDUSTRY
WITH PASSION
PORTLAND UNDERGOES
R2,5-M UPGRADE
In preparation for the historical book
planned for the IQSA’s 45
th
anniversary
next year, Lynne Montgomery is the
first of the personalities in this regular
Face to Face feature. As secretary of
the Institute for 20 years, her dedica-
tion and commitment towards the
advancement of the Institute has left a
legacy for the Institute of today.
The Portland quarry in Durbanville is in
the process of a R2,5-million upgrade,
which includes a new state-of-the-art
control centre, operations facility, can-
teen and workshops. Extremely busy at
the time of
MQ’s
visit, the operation has
a renewed focus on safety and quality
production.

BUILDING A NATION ON
SOLID FOUNDATIONS
Building collapses such as those seen
in Bangladesh and Nigeria and the
more recent one on our own shores in
KZN, will occur again and again, unless
careful attention is paid to the speci-
fication of appropriate materials to
meet a building’s design criteria, warns
Aspasa/Sarma director Nico Pienaar.
The IQSA’s symposium is always a
great networking opportunity and the
one held in September was no excep-
tion. IQSA chairman Glenn Johnson
has called on members to make next
year’s 45
th
anniversary celebrations
one to remember. The conference,
which takes place on 10-11 April in
Cape Town, will host the international
presidents and is a great opportunity to
showcase not only our country but the
Institute itself.
