CRABTREE has released details of its new circuit
breakers sockets designed to protect critical
current equipment. The product range ensures
that users do not exceed the rated capacity
of the circuit breaker, providing safety in the
application.
A normal switched socket, when overloaded,
causes the circuit breaker at the main distri-
bution board to trip, resulting in all sockets
connected to that specific circuit breaker to be
disconnected frompower.
Crabtree’s newly designed single-pole circuit
breaker, switches the live wire similar to a
normal switched socket. However, by having a
circuit breaker next to the socket, rated lower
than the distribution board circuit breaker, the
overload situation to that specific socket is
isolated.
Other sockets on the same circuit are not
affected allowing the remaining circuits to
continue protecting related equipment and
appliances.
Available in Crabtree’s Classic range, the new
circuit breaker sockets are offered in three
variants: 4x4 flush-mounted single-pole circuit
breaker with a single standard 164-1, 16A
socket; 4x4 flushmounted single-pole circuit
breaker with one standard 164-1 and the new
164-2 Slimline 16A socket; and a 2x4 surface
mounted industrial single pole circuit breaker
socket with a single standard 164-1 16A socket.
All models have a polycarbonate cover plate
and are currently available in 6, 10 and 16A
single-pole circuit breakers.
The new circuit breaker sockets are ideal for
use in laboratories, university dormitories,
hospitals and in any situation where critical
loads need to be regulated.

ABERDARE Cables’Armadac provides a cost-effec-
tive means of transferring power over long distances
through intermediate voltage step-up step-down
systems.
Armadac consists of three circular stranded plain
soft copper conductors, PVC-insulated, PVC-bedded,
SteelWire armoured and PVC-sheathed. It is suitable
for 1,9/3,3kV operation and is manufactured to
SANS 1507-3.
The advantages of using an intermediate voltage
cable over the conventional 400V three-phase
systemoffered by the increased voltage of 3,3kV
include the fact that the voltage drop, expressed as
a percentage, will be considerably lower and small
conductor sizes (10mm², 16mm² or 25mm²) will
suffice for most applications. The Armadac cable is
steel wire armoured and provides a robust mechani-
cal protection to the cable, making it suitable for
underground installation.
Armadac’s steel wire armouring offers additional
protection against attack by rodents and other ani-
mals. The steel wire armouring can also be utilised
as an earth continuity path, therefore eliminating
the need for an external earth conductor. Armadac
makes use of circular cores, which limits electrical
stress in the insulation and also incorporates a flame
retardant PVC sheath, which limits the spread of fire.
Suitable for use in a -10°C to 70°C temperature
range, Armadac is supplied in 500mwooden drums
and is identified by red, yellow and blue cores.
