ECA(SA) hopes for a better year for contractors despite economic uncertainty

CHRIS Greager, national director for the Electrical Contractor's Association (SA) says he is hopeful that 2012 will be a better year for the industry.

"Let us face it," says Greager, "2011 was a horrendous year for most electrical contractors. Work was scarce, competitors charged ridiculously low rates to secure what little work there was, and the ‘powers that be' did little to police or eradicate unregistered ‘pirate' contractors who are doing so much harm to this industry."

"Our efforts over the past year to get the training of apprentices moving again - now that this industry has been transferred to the Construction CETA - have been very slow and incredibly frustrating."
