Leading Chinese OEM XCMG has launched its first electric reach stacker.

XCMG EV reach stackerThe XCS45-EV is equipped with a 235 kWh, maintenance-free battery with an intelligent power management system and energy-recycle technology. It can easily be adapted to 220 V and 380 V for both stationary and mobile charging stations. It can operate continuously for eight hours after only two hours’ charge.

With a lifting capacity of 45 t and equipped with a 200 kW torque driving electric motor and AMT transmission, its traction force can reach 350 kN.

Already in operation in Shanghai after the Shanghai Harbor Bureau (SHB) became the first client to introduce this innovative machine into its logistics operations, it is proving to be a green solution.

SHB implemented the new EV reach stacker into its operations in line with its goals of becoming a more environmentally friendly port. This zero-emission, low-noise stacker meets these goals perfectly.

It has run for over 2 000 hours in the SHB terminals without a single breakdown. It handles 200 containers or 500 t of bulk cargo per shift, thanks to a battery with much-reduced thermal cut-off.

According to XCMG, the reach stacker has been well-received in the SHB terminals and market interest is high. Mass production of the XCS45-EV has already started.

“These stackers are made in China and we are ready to serve South Africa,” says an XCMG spokesman, indicating that the new reach stacker would be available in South Africa, along with dealership opportunities for this equipment, as well as container side lifters, empty container stackers and heavy-duty forklifts.
