Back in 1921, on 13 & 14 May, the First Conference of the South African Shipping & Forwarding Agents Association - known today as the Southern African Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF) was convened in Port Elizabeth, now Gqeberha.
This remarkable milestone reflects more than a century of contribution, commitment and partnership by generations of members, industry leaders, stakeholders and public sector collaborators who have collectively shaped the freight forwarding and logistics sector since 1921.
Over 105 years, SAAFF has continuously evolved to remain relevant and impactful in an ever-changing global trade environment. The organisation has strengthened its advocacy role, expanded industry engagement, elevated its strategic voice on national freight, trade and supply chain logistics matters, as it reinforces its commitment towards practical, sustainable industry solutions that support competitiveness, operational efficiency, and prosperity through inclusive economic participation and growth.
Importantly, the past four years have marked a significant period of transformation for SAAFF, as the organisation strategically adapted to shifting global trade patterns, supply chain disruption, digital transformation, geopolitical influences and the growing demands of a modern logistics environment.
At the core of SAAFF remains a strong and enduring value system. TRUST, RESPECT, INTEGRITY and EXCELLENCE form part of the organisation’s DNA and continue to guide its mandate and conduct.
SAAFF remains committed to service excellence, multidimensional collaboration, legitimate trade and industry advancement. Through inclusion, partnership and purposeful engagement, the organisation continues to serve as a cohesive force in support of economic growth, trade facilitation and the sustainable development of the logistics sector in Southern Africa.
Today, as we honour our founding fathers, celebrate our members of today and every member throughout the years, we celebrate our collective journey, and reaffirm our commitment towards the future of freight, trade and logistics in South Africa.
