Sungrow, a leading global provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems (ESS), participated at Solar & Storage Live Johannesburg 2026 with a focused showcase of integrated solar and storage solutions designed to support the evolving needs of the region’s commercial, industrial, and utility-scale energy markets.

Energy storage systems on show

Sungrow showcased its PV inverters and energy storage systems at Solar & Storage Live.

Across Africa, businesses are increasingly looking for smarter ways to manage energy usage, improve reliability, and optimise operational costs. To address the diverse energy challenges across the continent, Sungrow continues to develop and deploy solutions specifically adapted to local operating environments. From managing grid variability to supporting flexible deployment across different industries, Sungrow’s technologies are engineered for reliability and scalability. Combining robust hardware with intelligent energy management capabilities, Sungrow enables organisations across the region to build more efficient and adaptable energy systems aligned with their operational needs.

On the opening day of the exhibition, Sungrow signed 1 155 MWh C&I BESS Agreement with Herholdt’s Group, its official distribution partner in South Africa. This agreement signals a further step in Sungrow’s expansion in the South African market and reflects the growing demand for reliable and flexible energy solutions across the commercial and industrial sectors. It also highlights strong market confidence in Sungrow’s advanced storage technologies and its ability to deliver solutions tailored to local applications. The BESS systems will be deployed to serve projects around South Africa, supporting a wide range of C&I use cases.

Leveraging Sungrow’s advanced BESS solutions, the systems are designed to enhance power reliability, improve energy efficiency, and support the integration of renewable energy for businesses.

Nigel Sun of Sungrow said: “We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Herholdt’s Group as we continue to grow the C&I energy storage market in South Africa. This agreement reflects our shared confidence in the long-term potential of the C&I sector and recognises Sungrow’s solutions for delivering reliable and scalable energy storage for local applications.”

Sungrow also presented its portfolio of solutions tailored to suit local market conditions. These include advanced C&I storage systems, utility-scale energy storage platforms, high-efficiency inverters, and scalable microgrid architectures that support grid-connected and off-grid applications.

The Sungrow PowerKeeper, which was on display, is a dc-coupled energy storage system designed specifically for commercial and industrial environments. PowerKeeper is distinguished by its modular, stackable design, which allows for capacity to be expanded easily as energy needs grow. This flexible architecture enables businesses to scale their storage system over time without the need for major system redesigns. PowerKeeper forms part of Sungrow’s broader strategy to deliver more adaptable and intelligent energy management solutions for businesses across the region.

The company’s integrated Microgrid Solution demonstrates how hybrid energy systems combining solar, energy storage, and conventional generation can deliver stable and intelligent energy management in complex operating environments. This is particularly valuable in the mining sector, for instance, where remote operations and energy-intensive processes require resilient and flexible power solutions. Integrating renewable generation with advanced storage and control systems, microgrids can support remote mining sites and other industrial facilities that depend on reliable, well-managed energy infrastructure.

Sungrow also presented its SG465 inverter, designed to deliver high performance and reliability for large commercial and utility-scale projects, and its latest evolution of utility-scale energy storage platform, PowerTitan 3.0, developed to enhance safety, scalability, and lifecycle performance for large energy infrastructure projects.

"Sungrow has been operating in South Africa for nine years and has built a strong regional presence to support projects across the continent,” said Nigel Sun, President of Sungrow Sub-Saharan Africa. “Sungrow sales and solution teams are based across West, East, Central and Southern Africa and we work with a growing network of more than five channel partners. Together with our partners, we have to date delivered key projects in South Africa and across markets such as Botswana, the DRC and Zambia. Our focus is to work closely with EPCs, installers and asset owners to deploy integrated solar and storage solutions that strengthen energy resilience and improve long-term project returns."
