Siemens’ Sitrans Soft Sensor Engine IQ (Sitrans SSE IQ) is a virtual measurement technology that combines artificial intelligence and process knowledge. The software solution enables accurate prediction of measurement results without the need for specific physical sensors and can be used across various industries.

Predictive emissions monitoring

SSE IQ combines different techniques from AI and process expertise to offer a soft sensor model using process information.

Its application allows for precise prediction of emissions such as NOx, CO 2, CO, SO 2, and O2 in different types of equipment such as gas turbines, gas boilers, fire heaters, and flares (where power and energy management systems – PEMS – are used). The predictions are made in accordance with the requirements of the respective environmental authorities.

The software solution offers a number of further benefits:

  • Exact, reliable, and fast measurement results
  • Increased process performance by up to 100% availability
  • Minimal operating costs due to reduction of service efforts and other expenditure
  • Low initial investment costs compared to a physical sensor
  • Useable for broad range of applications.

Applications include:

  • Power generation plants
  • Petrochemicals processing, to estimate pollutants in the output flow of sour water stripping plant, for example
  • Pharmaceuticals, to predict penicillin concentration in the fed-batch fermentation process
  • Water, to forecast chlorine levels in wastewater treatment plants for water quality control.
