Maintenance costs, often grudge expenses for businesses or industrial operations, can be kept to a minimum by ensuring that maintenance crews are properly trained in key aspects of the condition monitoring process.

Upskilled workers add value to maintenance teams

Steven Lumley, Technical Manager at specialist condition monitoring company, WearCheck, says, “The rate at which technology is advancing in many aspects of condition monitoring highlights the need for regular technical training, to ensure that staff members stay abreast of the latest techniques and understand and implement the most efficient processes.”

Lumley, who oversees the company’s technical training schedule for customers, outlines the available options. “We offer more than 15 courses covering a range of topics, from general oil analysis to thermography, transformer maintenance and many other reliability solutions services. The courses are presented by experienced WearCheck experts in each field, and most courses award valuable CPD (continuing professional development) points to delegates.

“WearCheck has run oil analysis courses for more than 20 years and has been accredited to run Mobius courses since 2015. It constantly refines its training material to ensure that the content is relevant, useful and accurate,” Lumley adds.

“At WearCheck, we are passionately curious about novelty and improvement in the condition monitoring arena, and we’re proud to be able to share our knowledge with our clients.

“We embrace innovation and are constantly implementing new technologies. Therefore, the more informed our clients are about the upgraded analysis systems, the better their return on investment into a condition monitoring programme,” Lumley says.

The courses are targeted at different levels of maintenance crew members, from introductory up to specifically scientific and technical levels.

WearCheck’s 2025 customer training courses include oil analysis courses and Mobius courses, which it offers in centres around the country and across the continent through a programme scheduled across each month of the year. This programme is available on the website.

The company also offers on-site courses for customers on request.

Mobius courses

Mobius courses range from Precision shaft alignment, to Precision balancing, to Vibration analysis, and lead to accredited certification for asset reliability practitioners, condition monitoring specialists and precision maintenance technicians. All Mobius courses are presented at various venues throughout Africa. Courses can be presented online or on-site at a customer’s premises for a minimum of seven delegates.

The 2025 programme for Mobius training courses (online or classroom based) is also available on the WearCheck website.

Bookings can be made by contacting WearCheck directly.
