From drones to the cloud to AI, the world is progressing at the speed of light. It’s not always easy staying on top of the latest innovations in your field, but Electra Mining Africa 2024 will present the leading technology – in the exhibition displays and in talks from industry trailblazers across the mining, electrical, automation, manufacturing, power and transport sectors, all in one place.

Electra Mining Africa 2022 attracted more than 30 000 visitors.
The event will be held this year again at the Expo Centre, Nasrec, Johannesburg from 2 to 6 September. The show will extend over more than 35 000 m² and accommodate over 850 exhibitors in five exhibition halls and outside exhibition areas. Live demonstrations will show machinery and equipment in action. The focus is largely on local industry, manufacturers and suppliers, with top brands participating, and an international contingent will include exhibits from countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan, India and China.
As the largest trade show of its kind in Southern Africa and with over five decades of experience, Electra Mining Africa offers a valuable opportunity for exhibitors and visitors, buyers and sellers, to connect face-to-face and develop new – or strengthen existing – business relationships.
Gary Corin, Managing Director of Specialised Exhibitions, a division of Montgomery Group, says, “We’re looking forward to this year’s show. The industry gave its full support to Electra Mining Africa 2022, where we saw just more than 30 000 visitors through the gates. We’re expecting to surpass that number this year. Industry organisations, companies and SMMEs will be represented across all the sectors. Some have exhibited with us for over 50 years, and their businesses have grown, as has Electra Mining Africa.”
Building on the success of the automation exhibition in 2022, the organisers have received overwhelming support from the industry again this year and the show will include, for the first time, the Local Southern African Manufacturing Expo.
Charlene Hefer, Portfolio Director at Specialised Exhibitions, also flags some of the other highlights. The Innovation and New Products Awards will be presented again. The awards programme is organised in partnership with the South African Capital Equipment Export Council (SACEEC) to recognise the outstanding levels of innovation at the show.
Also happening again this year is the Forklift Driver competition, organised together with Lifting Africa and LEEASA. It gives forklift drivers a platform to show off their skills, competing to be Forklift Driver Champion.
Hefer notes education and learning as important aspects of Electra Mining Africa and says industry experts will deliver free-to-attend talks on some of the latest trends and developments at the Seminar Theatre in Hall 9. These will be hosted by the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE) and will cover topics aligned with the show’s theme days of sustainability, women in industry, skills development, safety and lifting, innovation and South Africa day. The Lifting Equipment Engineering Association of SA (LEEASA) and the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) will host conferences alongside the show. Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA) will also host a half-day workshop.
