Electricity Expo Africa was officially launched at the ECA(SA) Presidential Excellence Awards on November 22, 2024. Organised by the Electrical Contractors Association (SA) and the South African Equity Workers Association (SAEWA), this landmark event is set to take place at the Nasrec Expo Centre, Johannesburg, from 9 to 11 September 2025. It will bring together industry leaders, innovators and key stakeholders to address Africa’s energy challenges with cutting edge, sustainable and safe solutions.

Electricity Expo Africa 2025 innovation and opportunity

Electricity Expo Africa 2025 aims to convene all industry players to address Africa’s energy needs.

SAEWA and the ECA(SA) are the sole partners behind the National Bargaining Council for the Electrical Industries in South Africa (NBCEI), a model of successful cooperation spanning more than five decades. The two organisations have worked together to establish one of the country’s most effective and influential bargaining councils. They are applying the same spirit of collaboration to Electricity Expo Africa, where they are committed to delivering an event that will inform and reshape the future of the electrical industry.

The expo will serve as a dynamic platform for installers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and regulators to convene, collaborate, and share innovative solutions to address Africa’s energy needs. It will showcase the latest advances in electrical technologies, renewable energy solutions, and smart grid innovations. It will also offer valuable business-to-business (B2B) opportunities to foster sustainable growth and generate long-term benefits for society.

“Electricity is the pulse of Africa's future – an engine of innovation, development, and prosperity across the continent,” said Frans Swanepoel, President of the ECA(SA). “More than an exhibition, the Electricity Expo Africa is a call to action – a chance to explore, discover, and collaborate on new technologies that will transform Africa's energy landscape and provide safe, sustainable access to electricity for all.“

The future of energy in Africa

As well as showcasing the latest in energy solutions, the Electricity Expo Africa will place a strong emphasis on skills development, training, and knowledge exchange. The event aims to support the next generation of installers, engineers, technicians, and entrepreneurs with knowledge of the practical skills and expertise needed to meet the energy challenges of the future.

In collaboration with colleges, universities, and training institutions, the expo will ensure that educational programmes align with industry needs, helping to create a highly skilled workforce ready to drive innovation and improve electricity infrastructure across the continent.

“Electricity remains a cornerstone of Africa’s development. Our goal with the expo is to empower the future workforce and share opportunities for training. We aim to expose learners and students to the latest technology and to the wide range of career opportunities in the electricity sector,” said Robert McAlpine, General Secretary of SAEWA. “By promoting collaboration between academia, business, and government, the expo will play an important role in bridging the skills gap, ensuring that South Africa and Africa can meet global energy standards and achieve energy security for all. Future generations must inherit the results of the good work the expo will deliver. This is the legacy we intend to deliver.”
