We are heading into winter in South Africa, which means staying indoors at night… but that does not mean you can’t still admire your outdoor space. Leading lighting specialist Radiant shares three easy-to-follow tips for using garden spikes (that will work well in summer too)…

Radiants garden spike tips

Along pathways and walkways

Garden spike lighting flanking a driveway, garden path, or walkway leading up to the front door allows people to clearly see where they are going after dark. This reduces the risk of tripping and possibly injury. It also creates a welcoming ambience, leading guests up to the home with an inviting glow.

Near special features

Attractive features of the home, from a prized flower bed to a water fountain to interesting architecture or brickwork, can all be highlighted by spike lights, especially those with an adjustable light source that can be aimed in any desired direction.

At the base of a tree

Positioned at the base of a tree and pointed in an upward direction, garden spike lighting can create a dramatic lighting effect known as uplighting. This effect captures and highlights the shape of the branches, flowers and leaves. The goal is a soft subtle glow to create an ambience as opposed to a harsh floodlight style of illumination.
