Situated on the 27th floor of a new office tower in Mumbai, India, this office at Office@27 for the Vibrant Group required six cabins, conference and discussion rooms, and seating for 36 employees.

Sculptural lighting and sustainable materials illuminate this Mumbai based office

The office design incorporates a variety of sustainable materials, each used differently within the distinct spaces. Cabins are positioned around the perimeter, while open seating areas form the central volume. The impressive 6-metre ceiling height, a rare feature in new office buildings, is fully retained.

A striking collage of fire-retardant paper tubes of varying diameters forms a sculptural ceiling over the central volume, interspersed with specially designed tubular lights. The 6-metre partitions surrounding this central area are crafted in an abstract mix of wood, glass, cane, jute, and fabric.

Beyond these partitions, the cabins are shaped from recycled plywood strips collected from various sites, creating undulating forms in both plan and section. The tables, credenzas, and storage cabinets within the cabins are also made from these plywood strips, giving each cabin a cohesive sculptural appearance.

The larger conference room features a paper tube light installation, with tubes of different sizes suspended at varying heights.

Towards the end of the office, a breakout space offers stunning views of the city skyline, complete with a bar counter and casual seating areas. The reception area is monolithic, featuring fibreboard panels that mimic concrete planks. The table and benches are constructed from lightweight foam concrete, designed specifically for this office. Organic fabric swirls form lights suspended in each cabin, created in collaboration with a lighting manufacturer. All walls are finished in lime plaster, without cement.

All the furniture, lighting, partitions, and ceilings were constructed and fabricated on site by a skilled team of workers, using sustainable materials.

The office for the Vibrant Group showcases a series of volumes with varied textures, materials, and compositions, including paper, cane, jute, fabric, recycled plywood, lime plaster, and terrazzo flooring. These elements create distinct individual spaces that seamlessly merge into one another, highlighting the innovative and sustainable lighting design that defines this unique workspace.
