Nestled in South Africa’s Paarl-Franschhoek Valley, ARRCC’s Winelands Villa at Val de Vie Estate blends contemporary design with rustic charm, using lighting to enhance its connection to the natural landscape.

Lighting Up Modern Farmhouse Elegance in the Cape Winelands

Inspired by Provençal and Cape traditions, the villa’s pitched roofs, timber rafters, and natural materials set the stage for ARRCC’s carefully crafted lighting design. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors flood the space with sunlight, creating an airy flow from indoors to the terraces and framing stunning views of the Drakenstein and Simonsberg mountains. This design choice makes the living area feel like an open pavilion, integrating natural light to highlight the villa’s architectural elegance.

Inside, ARRCC’s ambient lighting complements the high ceilings and spacious layout. Clerestory windows fill the lounge with daylight, enhancing the sense of openness, while recessed lighting within timber beams adds warmth to the space. This layering of light softens the architecture and brings a grounded sense of luxury, transforming the villa’s grandeur into a welcoming environment suitable for both vibrant gatherings and cosy evenings.

ARRCC also highlights key features with focused lighting. The sandstone plinth supporting the fireplace, a central focal point, is enhanced by recessed spotlights, accentuating its natural texture. Timber and screed flooring, along with the asymmetrical detailing of the ceiling beams, are illuminated to balance rustic charm with sleek modernity, creating an intimate space within the open-plan layout.

Outside, the terraces and pool area reflect the villa’s resort-like atmosphere, with lighting that transitions seamlessly from day to night. Soft perimeter lights around a floating pool island produce a serene reflection, adding depth to the outdoor space. Integrated lighting beneath a long canopy over the terrace provides both shelter and ambiance, allowing the surrounding landscape to shine well into the evening.

In the master suite, ARRCC’s lighting design evokes spa-like tranquillity, blending soft, diffused light with task lighting near the mirrors to create a restful retreat. The warm lighting tones reflect off neutral surfaces, establishing a personal sanctuary connected to nature.

The Winelands Villa’s lighting transforms each space, making it both functional and emotionally engaging. By balancing light, material, and open space, ARRCC achieves a modern yet timeless appeal, harmonising the villa’s design with the serene beauty of the Cape Winelands.
