In a significant demonstration of commitment to educational transformation and development, Bokoni Platinum Mines (BPM) has provided ten local secondary schools in Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) with learning and teaching equipment valued at R100,000 each. This initiative aims to bolster the fight against inadequate educational resources, emphasising the collective effort needed to overcome the challenges faced by schools daily. Marking a significant milestone in their Strategic Social and Labour Plan (SLP) 3, BPM presented essential learning and teaching materials to Serokolo, Potlake, Nyaku, Malengine, Lefakgomo, Tlouphuti, Phutitlou, Selebalo, Frank Mashile, and Morokalebole high schools. Acknowledging that quality education relies on solid infrastructure and technical resources, BPM's contribution aims to create an environment conducive to learning, empowering learners with essential tools to excel in their studies and achieve their aspirations.
The hand-over ceremony was attended by Ward 34 and Ward 35 councillors, Koketso Lenox Thobela and Mmakgashane Phasha from the Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality, representatives from Bokoni Platinum Mines Social Performance Team, School Governing Bodies (SGB), and learners. School principals expressed gratitude for the efforts directed towards ensuring quality education through the provision of teaching and learning equipment.
Mr Mashabela, Principal of Selebalo, remarked in his appreciative speech, "In my teaching career, I have never witnessed a mining company prioritising education and empower people to learn as much as Bokoni Platinum Mines does. This is history in the making." He further emphasised how the donated equipment would assist learners in classrooms and inspire teachers to conduct lessons more effectively.
In the midst of technological advancements and the fourth industrial revolution, pivotal changes are occurring, radically impacting teaching and learning methods. To assist rural high schools in keeping pace with these changes, the mine generously donated essential electronic equipment such as projectors, laptops, headphones, gamification scrabble, and internet connectivity devices.
During the hand-over, learners and SGB members expressed their appreciation to BPM, highlighting how the learning equipment would enhance their day-to-day learning experiences and motivate them to concentrate on their studies. Tlotlego Mokgoko, the Community Development Manager, highlighted that the mine supports local communities by offering bursaries to academically deserving learners, enabling them to pursue higher education. This exemplifies BPM's commitment to making education fashionable through the mine's SLP.
