The HV Test Group of Companies, founded in 1985, has become a leader in electrical training and testing locally. To keep up with demand, it recently opened an additional testing centre in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) to keep up with demand.

HV Test Academy opens new KZN training and testing facility

Over the years, the HV Test Group's training department has evolved into what is now known as HV Test Academy (Pty) Ltd. The company introduced its first Cable Fault Location course in the early 1980s, setting a benchmark for specialised training in this field. Today, it continues to offer advanced courses incorporating the latest technology and testing methods.

Wide range of courses

HV Test Academy provides a comprehensive range of courses, including Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS) at various levels, such as Authorised Person, Responsible Person, and Limited Access.

HV Test Academy’s curriculum also includes diverse cable courses covering MV Cable Jointing and Termination, Cable Fault Location, Cable Diagnostics, Cable Tracing, and Cable Identification and Spiking. In addition, it offers courses in Motor Testing, Circuit Breaker Testing, Transformer Testing, as well as Basic and Advanced Protection testing.

Specialised product training for all types of test equipment is also provided. Basic Electricity and all Health and Safety-related training round out the complete complement of courses presented by HV Test Academy.

All courses are facilitated by HV Test’s industry-expert staff, who are accredited and actively engaged in testing and commissioning onsite.

KZN gets new training centre

HV Test Academy has established itself as a reputable training provider and, in response to growing market demand, recognised a need for its high-quality programs and commitment to workforce development in other regions too.

Its newly launched training centre in KZN addresses the regional need for skilled operators by offering a state-of-the-art switching simulator, designed to bridge the skills gap amongst operators working on electrical networks. This intensive and practical course caters to smaller groups of four to six participants, ensuring each learner receives personalised attention from our facilitators. The practical sessions are meticulously structured to guide learners through the correct sequence of steps for safely working on electrical apparatus and restoring it to service post-maintenance.

Accreditation matters

H.V.’s training programmes are accredited by the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing Sector Education and the Training Authority (FP&M SETA), and the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE).

“Choosing accredited providers for training is crucial to enable employers to claim training expenses under skills levies,” explains Isak Hattingh, general manager at the HV Test Academy. Accreditation can be verified by requesting accreditation validation letters from the provider or consulting the relevant registration body.

With a steadfast commitment to excellence, the HV Test Academy remains at the forefront of electrical training, equipping professionals with the skills needed to excel in the evolving electrical industry.
