are LincolnElectric’s latest genera-
tion inverter-based single phasemulti-
process welding machines. Primarily
designed for MIG use, Lincoln Electric
has constructed a fully professional
compact, lightweight and portable
machine that ispackedwith features to
make the range suitable forwidespread
use. “Thesemachines can be used for
many different applications. They can
be easily moved around production
facilities and transported to any loca-
tion effortlessly,” says Morné Pieters,
of LincolnElectric sub-SaharanAfrica.
The units can be powered from a
mains supply and are also suitable for
use with motor generators. Both the
SPEEDTEC 180C and 200C welding
machines have been equipped with
power factor correction (PFC), a feature
that supports high output welding cur-
rent from a 230 V single phase 50 or
60 Hz supply and enables them to be
used on long primary extension cables
– of up to 100m.
Electroniccontrol of theweldingcur-
rent andvoltagewaveformsallows these
multi-process units to be used forMIG,
MMA(stick) or TIGwelding, depending
on themodel chosen.
The SPEEDTEC 180C is the stan-
dard dual process model that can be
used for constant voltage (CV)MIGand
constant current (CC) MMA welding.
“The 180C is equipped with all the
essential functions, like step-less arc
inductance forCVMIGandhot start and
arc force functions for stick welding,”
says Pieters.
The SPEEDTEC 200C is an ad-
vancedmulti-processmodel that canbe
used forCVMIG inmanual andsynergic
modes; CCMMA; anddc lift-TIG. It has
a large,bright andadjustablecolourTFT
(thin-film transistor) display and a user
interface that allows easy viewing of
weldingparametersandaccess toother
features and menus. The screen uses
simple, easy tounderstand icons rather
than traditional text, so instructionsand
commands are readily understood.
“The new SPEEDTEC range can be
used for many different welding appli-
cations. TheMIGwelding performance
givesexcellent results for steel, stainless
steel and aluminium using 200 mm
diameter wire spools. They work well
withmixed gases, with100%CO
2
and
cope easily with self-shielding wires
such as Innershield,” Pieters assures.
The units are supported by the
Lincoln Electric professional wire feed
systemwith37mmdiameterdrive rolls.
"As well as being compact and
portable, SPEEDTECweldingmachines
are ideal for use on site at any location.
Their multi-process capability also
makes thema flexibleequipmentoption.
Built theLincolnway, thenewmachines
are robust, reliable and professionally
backed up by a two-year full parts and
labour warranty," says Pieters.
ThenewLincoln range isnowavail-
able in South Africa through the local
LincolnElectric office or through any of
the company's authorised distribution
partners.
