Liebherr’s new logistics centre
The Liebherr Group
has began construction
of a new logistics
centre near Kirchdorf
an der Iller (Baden-
Württemberg,
Germany).
THE NEW LOGISTICS CENTRE
will be the point from which spare parts for Liebherr
earthmoving machinery will be supplied around the world. In the long term, spare parts
logistics for other construction machinery divisions of the Group will also find its home here.
It is currently anticipated that the first building extension phase will be completed in the third
quarter of 2014. This phase covers site development, erection of a logistics warehouse over
an area of approximately 47 000m², as well as the construction of a separate administrative
building. The site should be operational within the third quarter of 2015. The investment for
the first extension phase is over €100-million.
Several factors were decisive in selecting this location, amongst which was the proximity to
the A7 autobahn, coupled with available area for further expansion. Another important factor
was the proximity to the large number of Liebherr construction machinery plants in southern
Germany, Austria and France.
For efficient storage of spare parts, a high-bay store, with 60 000 spaces for pallets and
a height of approximately 38m will be built. In total, the warehouse will offer an area of
47 000m² storage space. For logistics, on the premises, there will also be an innovative 29m
high container warehouse for 122 000 containers and a potential goods handling output of
3500 containers per hour.
In the remaining 20m high section of the building, provision will be made for manual storage
areas with 25 000 pallet spaces and a storage zone, as well as workspaces for customer-
specific consignments, packaging and dispatch.
Using 22 transport loading bridges, the spare parts will be loaded onto HGVs and vans and
sent to customers and dealers via the quickest route possible.
The earthmoving division
Earthmoving equipment is one of ten divisions of the Liebherr Group. The divisional controlling
company is Liebherr-EMtec GmbH, which is based in Kirchdorf an der Iller. In this division,
Liebherr develops and manufactures wheeled excavators and crawler excavators; articulated
dump trucks; wheel loaders; crawler tractors and crawler loaders; pipelayers; telescopic
handlers; deep foundation machines and material handling machines. These machines are
used around the world in the construction sector, in the mining industry as well as for a broad
range of applications in goods handling
In the final extension
phase, Liebherr will
have a warehouse area
of about 170 000m² as
well as an administrative
building covering an
area of 4500m² on the
360 000m² site.
